Trader shot dead at Jojobera level-crossing

    Jamshedpur, May 12: In a shocking incident, a 40-year-old businessman was shot dead by unidentified assailants near the Jojobera level-crossing under Govindpur police station area, on Thursday morning.

    The murder victim, identified as Sanjiv Singh, was shot eight bullets on his face as he was was returning to his Telco home on a scooter from Sarjamda at Parsudih.

    Sanjiv, who involved into business of sale and purchase of land, was carrying Rs 30,000 cash from his ancestral house at Sarjamda. The police recovered the cash and have also recovered some documents related to sale of property.

    According to sources, while crossing the level-crossing the victim had slowed down, two motorbike-borne criminal attacked him. One of the shooters pumped as many as eight bullets from a short distance, causing him to collapse.

    Soon a police patrolling vehicle arrived at the spot and rushed the critically injured Singh to Tata Motors Hospital in Telco. At the hospital the doctors on emergency duty declared him as brought dead.

    Soon after the incident senior police officers, including the superintendent of police (city) Chandan Jha had rushed to the spot and inspected the scene of murder.

    DSP (city) Animesh Nathani said that they are investigating the incident. The murder victim was supposed to purchase electrical meters with Rs 30,000, which was found from his pocket.

    “We are probing. We have also recovered some land related papers from the scooter which the victim was riding. We suspected that the murder might have been committed due to a dispute in land transaction,” said Nathani.

    The DSP (city) Nathani said the victim was returning from his house at Sarjamda where his elder brother Jitendra Singh stayed. As per our initial study the assailants must have been following the victim from his Sarjamda house, and when they got a chance they attacked him,” said the police officer. He pointed out the murder seemed to have taken place due to an old enmity.

    The victim’s elder brother Jitendra Singh who had arrived at the Govindpur police station said,”We are in state of shock and don’t know who were the attackers. Sanjiv would earlier run a business of liquor supply, but three-four years he had switched over to the land sale-purchase business.

    He had also bought plots of land house-building at Govindpur and Parsudih localities, but we do not know whether he had enmity with anyone.”

    The police have recovered the body and sent it to the MGM Medical College mortuary for post-mortem having registered a case of murder against unknown on the basis of an FIR lodged by Jitendra Singh in connection to the incident.
