Tigress of Saraikela Chutni Devi honoured with Padma Shri for crusade against social evils

Saraikela, Jan 25: Chutni Devi, who was once branded witch and later launched fight against the evil has been conferred with country’s fourth highest civilian award Padma Shri for her outstanding contribution to the society. 63-year-old resident of Birbasha village in Saraikela-Kharsawan district of Jharkhand, Chutni Devi was condemned as heretic.  Not only did she emerged out of the dungeon of castigation  but pulled out 55 other labeled black magic practitioners and sorcerers to return to normal ways of life and living. The lady, an example of self belief, is leading by example and continuing the crusade against operation of women. She is none other than Chutni Devi of Birbasha village in Saraikela-Kharsawan district whose motivational services have been recognized by the government of India and has been honoured with the prestigious Padma Shri Award this year. Currently she has been associated with Flash organisation and through family counseling center she has been making the society aware against the evil of witchcraft. The Ministry of Home Affairs on Monday announced the list of awardees for Padma Awards — one of the highest civilian awards in the country.
