Jamshedpur, Feb. 3: Tata Steel was crowned the champion of the All India Inter Steel Plants Athletic Championship while Durgapur Steel Plant ended as runner-up. Ashish Kumar Patra from Rourkela Steel Plant was adjudged the best athlete for Long Jump event.
The championship was organized by Tata Steel in association with SPSB from 1st to 3rd Feb` 2016 at the JRD Tata Sports Complex. R Ravi Prasad, President, Tata Worker’s Union was the Chief Guest on closing day and distributed the prizes to winners. On the occasion Farzan Heerjee, Chief (GR & Sports), Mukul Vinayak Chodhury, N K Jha, Bipin Pail, Rajiv Seth, employees of Sports dept and many ex Athletes were present.
Mr. Bagicha Singh, Director of the meet welcomed the Chief Guest and Guests. Qualified officials of Jamshedpur and other Steel Plants, Game teachers and trainees of Athletic Training Center had cooperated in making the meet successful.
It may be noted that nine Steel Plants teams of the country had participated in it. Around 300 athletes and officials were part of the championship.
The steel plants included Alloy Steel Plant, Durgapur, Durgapur Steel Plant, Tata Steel, Vishakhapatnam Steel Plant (RINL/VSP), Rourkela Steel Plant, Bhilai Steel Plant, Bokaro Steel Limited, Indian Steel Plant, Burnpur, Vhadrawati Iron & Steel (VISL).
M. Vara Prasad of RINL/VSP was the Observer and Ms. Minoti Mahapatra was nominated as Special Observer by SPSB.
