Tata Steel organizes hockey tournament at Armoury Ground


    Jamshedpur, Jan 3: The Hockey tournament organized by Corporate Social Responsibility department of Tata Steel was inaugurated today at Armoury Ground, Jamshedpur.

    G S Gagrai, President, Hockey West Singhbhum graced the occasion as the chief guest while Biswajit Roy Chowdhury, Chief, Jharkhand Steel Project was the Guest of Honour. Patras Lugun, General Secretary, Hockey, West Singhbhum, James Lugun, member of Hockey, West Singhbhum, and senior Executives of Tata Steel were also present on the occasion.

    A total of 128 players from 8 teams (in the open age category) participated in the first day of the tournament. The teams which participated included Hira Nagpur club- Sonari, Christan Basti Shankarpur, Kiriburu – Kiribura, Narayanpur Sarna Tola – Gamaharia, Serikela- Serikela, Munda Hockey Sports- Birsa Nagar, Adivasi Kalayan Samitti – Adityapur and DYBC – Parsudih.

    Out of the 8 teams mentioned above, 4 teams namely Kiriburu, Munda Hockey Sports- Birsa Nagar, Hira Nagpur Club- Sonari, Narayanpur Sarna Tola- Gamahria made to the semifinals (open age category) to be held tomorrow. The finals for the open age category and the matches (including semi-finals and finals) for the U/16 category will be organized on Saturday, Jan 4.
