Jamshedpur: It seems there are no end to the woes of passengers as intense cold wave and foggy weather in the northern parts of the country, particularly the national capital New Delhi, has taken a toll on train schedules.

As many as four trains — New Delhi – Puri Neelanchal Express, New Delhi- Bhubaneshwar Sampark Kranti Express, Bhubaneshwar- New Delhi Rajdhani Express and Puri-New Delhi Purushottam Superfast Express are getting delayed at Tatanagar from past two weeks.

The Puri-bound Neelachal Express, which travels via Tatanagar, is running 14 hours late. The schedule arrival of the train at Tatanagar is 7.30 am. Yesterday’s Puri- bound Purushottam Superfast Express reached Tatanagar railway station at around 4 pm. The superfast train was supposed to come to Tatanagar at 8 pm last night.

Similarly, the Haridwar-Puri Utkal express which was running running nine hours late reached Tatanagar at around 5 am. The schedule arrival of the train at Tatanagar is 8.20 pm.

The Tata-Jammu Tawi Express has been rescheduled by four hours today. The scheduled departure of the train from Tatanagar is 2.50 pm but the train left the originating station at 6.50 pm today.

Station manager at Tatanagar, O.P Sharma confirmed the delayed running of the train. “Several trains coming to Tatanagar from northern India are running late for the last few days due to fog.

Only one train – Tata-Jammu Tawi Express- was rescheduled today. East Coast Railways will also rescheduled a couple of trains including Purushottam Express running via Tatanagar ,” said Sharma.

Railway officials said that dense fog in the northern parts of the country is taking a toll on movement of passenger trains. “We have opened an extra counter at the railway station for refund of tickets and also to inform the passengers about the latest status of trains,” said an official.

Officials at the ticket booking counter said that several passengers are opting for cancellation of tickets due to delayed running of the train. Railway sources informed that last night a section of passengers created a ruckus on the platform after they came to know about the inordinate delay of the Purushottam Superfast Express, a popular train between the two destinations- Puri and New Delhi.
