Tamil Musical Drama on Sri Thyagaraja mesmerizes audience at Madrasi Sammelani

Jamshedpur, August 16: On the eve of its centenary year, Madrasi Sammelani organized Tamil Musical Drama on 17th and 18th century greatest composer of Carnatic music, Sri Thyagaraja on Monday, August 15.

Composed, directed and enacted by the renowned theatre personality, T V Varadarajan of Chennai, the musical drama was well appreciated by the audience. A 23-member team from Chennai, performed the play. The musical drama, which lasted for nearly 3 hours kept the audience spellbound.

The musical drama, which consisted of life story on Sri Thyagaraja, was melodiously narrated in musical form by the performing artists. The presentation of T V Varadarajan, who donned the role of Sri Thyagaraja, was brilliant and the audience was mesmerized to hear the soulful songs composition of Sri Thyagaraja, which were presented by noted Tamil classical singer Bombay Jayashri, who was also the Oscar Award nominee.

Incidentally, T V Varadarajan was a newsreader for Chennai Doordarshan for more than 28 years and a well known Tamil theatre artist.

More than 100 shows of the play were presented by the troupe across many cities of India which were well received by the audience.

Earlier, M S V Siva, Hony. Secretary, Madrasi Sammelani, welcomed the guests and introduced the artists to the spectators. While B S Chandrashekhar, Chairman, Board of Trustees, Madrasi Sammelani, honoured the artists at the conclusion of the play, G Shankar, President, Madrasi Sammelani, proposed the Vote of Thanks.
