Jamshedpur, July 3: After eight confirm cases of dengue were reported, fresh suspected cases of Japanese Encephalitis (JE) have surfaced in the city.
District officer for Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme ( IDSP), Sahir Pall said they got two blood samples of suspected Japanese encephalitis (JE) cases, which were sent to the microbiology department of MGM Medical College in Dimna. ” We got the samples from a local hospital which has been sent to the lab for a test. The report is expected in the next 72-hours,” he said.
� We are regularly spreading awareness. The basement of flats , terrace, tyres, flower pots in flats, new construction areas have maximum larvae formation. We will chalk out a strategy at the meeting for an extensive cleanliness drive epecially in the civic body governed areas.” he said.
JE too is spread through mosquito bites. Symptoms usually take 5-15 days to develop and include fever, headache, vomiting, confusion, and difficulty in moving. JE is a serious disease that may cause death.
Jusco and local civic bodies havedecided to step up cleanliness and awareness drive, concerned over eight cases of positive dengue cases reported from different parts of steel city. Of eight confirmed cases, three were from Mango, two from Baridih and one each from Agrico, Birsanagar and Golmuri.
Jusco officials today said that the public health team had already started an awareness campaign to check the spread of the disease caused by Aedes aegypti mosquito.
The Mango Notified Area Committee ( MNAC) has issued a WhatsApp number 7909047559 so that residents can use the social media platform to raise their concerns over waste or garbage dumped near their localities.
According to experts drastic change in weather conditions and fast depleting forest cover may have let the virus that hitherto confined to wild animals, prey the human beings. Unusual weather conditions seem to have triggered viral fevers on a large scale with scores of children and adult being admitted to the hospital with such complaints.
�Jusco had been carrying out spraying of anti-larvicidal chemicals and fogging under its command areas while the local urban bodies along with district filaria department have been spraying anti-larvicidal and also distributing pamphlets informing masses not to let water accumulate in unused containers and complain about clogging of drains. However, now we want to visit spots which had witnessed higher number of dengue and chikungunya cases in the past and destroy water accumulating containers in houses,� said the official.
