Student activists protest removal of womens college principal


    Jamshedpur : After Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) created ruckus and indulged in vandalism at the  Jamshedpur Co-operative College, A group of  youth activists staged demonstration against the Kolhan University’s vice-chancellor at Jamshedpur Womens College in Bistupur on Monday.

    Under the banner Radical Youth and Students Helpline, a social organisation working for the welfare of students started agitation against RPP Singh, the vice-chancellor and protested against the removal of Sumita Mukherjee, principal of Jamshedpur Women’s College without any prior information.

    Students opposed the decision of Kolhan University vice-chancellor, RPP Singh for suspending Das and Sumita Mukherjee, professor-in-charge of Jamshedpur Women’s College and appointing Razi and Sujata Sinha without informing the members of the syndicate. The new appointments were made on February 20.

    The group of ABVP students supported by a couple of other students union like NSUI (National Students Union of India) and JVCM (Jharkhand Vikas Chhatra Morcha) had yesterday locked the principal’s chamber and requested Razi to not take charge as a professor-in-charge till the time. The students representatives have also met chief minister Ragubar Das day before yesterday and the governor Syed Ahmed.

    The members started protesting in the morning and will continue this as long as they do not interact with the VC.

    Though police in adequate number is deployed who also requested the agitators to withdraw themselves, Singh and her team did not agree.

    The members said that would lock the gates of the college tomorrow if the university didn’t react to their protest.
