Jamshedpur, May 12: Steel City paid tributes to Pramatha Nath Bose (P N Bose) on his 160th birth anniversary on Tuesday, May 12. P N Bose had made invaluable contribution towards the setting up of Tata Steel and steel industry at large at India.
The event brought back memories of the man whose very own research findings for iron ore deposits led Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, to set up an industrial base in Sakchi, now a part of the steel city of Jamshedpur.
The occasion was marked with garlanding the statue of P N Bose by the Chief Guest, Anand Sen, President, TQM & Steel Business, Tata Steel, R Ravi Prasad, President, Tata Workers� Union, the Guest of Honour and Dr. T Mukherjee, Ex Deputy Managing Director, Tata Steel. Also present were other senior officials, union office bearers, employees of Tata Steel.
Recalling P.N. Bose�s contributions, Mr Sen said that it was due to his invaluable research that Tata Steel is located in one of the most favorable locations in terms of raw material availability.
Global dynamics will change and so will our operational strategies but the fact that Tata Steel has sustained itself for more than a century and for some more time to come is all because of the greatness of P N Bose.
Ravi Prasad gave a moving account of the life and times of P N Bose and his efforts in setting up a steel plant in Sakchi and the beginning of the steel industry in India.
Speaking on the occasion Dr Mukherjee said that the bust of P N Bose has been provided by Geological Survey of India. Tata Steel provided the space at a prime location to house the bust, thereby creating an everlasting bond between P N Bose and Tata Steel.�
A thematic exhibition on P N Bose and a special brochure was put up for all to get a better insight to the legendary man�s life and contributions.
Born on May 12, 1855 in a remote village of Gaipur, in 24 Parganas district, West Bengal, Geologist Late P. N. Bose graduated in Science from London University and passed out from the Royal School of Mines the following year in 1878.
