Jamshedpur, June 16: A life-size statue of martyr Ganesh Hansda was jointly unveiled on his second death anniversary in Kosafaliya village of Baharagora by his parents and the sate transport minister Champai Soren here on Thursday.

Other dignitaries present on the occasion included Baharagora MLA Samir Mohanty, Ghatsila MLA Ramdas Soren, Potka MLA Sanjeev Sardar, Jugsalai MLA Mangal Kalindi and Ichagarh MLA Savita Mahato. Jamshedpur MP Bidyut Baran Mahato also paid tribute to the martyred soldier and remembered him for his valour.

Earlier, Chief Minister Hemant Soren was scheduled to inaugurate the statue but his programme was cancelled at the last moment and Champai Soren was sent to the event. District administration had made elaborate preparations for the CM’s arrival, sources said.

The martyr’s mother Kapra Hansda and father Sugda were dismayed on coming to know about the CM’s inability to join the programme. They were later persuaded and assured by the administration of all possible help by the state government.

Soren and other dignitaries also inaugurated Shahid Park in the memory of late Ganesh Hansda who lost his life in the fight with PLA soldiers in the Galwan Valley on 16th June 2020.

Hundreds of local villagers had gathered near the statue of Ganesh Hansda to pay tribute to the son of the soil who sacrificed his life for the nation. The statue has been built on the initiative of Dr Sanjay Giri of Shahid Ganesh Hansda Memorial Committee. It is installed at the same place where the martyred soldier was cremated two years ago.

Addressing the villagers, Champai Soren said the JMM was the only party that could honour martyrs. He said the CM had some urgent work which prevented him from coming to the village. He added that the CM would soon meet the parents of late Ganesh Hansda.

Members of Poorva Sainik Parishad also paid tribute to the martyr.
