Special train between Kachiguda, Tatanagar to meet summer rush

Jamshedpur, April 26: The Railways have introduced a special train between Kachiguda near Hyderabad and Tatanagar. The Summer Weekly Special Express left Kachiguda at 1 p.m. on Tuesday and will arrive at Tatanagar at 7.45 p.m. On its return journey, the train will leave Tatanagar at 10.50 p.m.

Railway officials at Garden Reach, headquarters of South Eastern Railway in Kolkata, said that the train was introduced to meet the rush of passengers during the summer season.

Moreover, like every year this year too additional coaches will be provided in long distance trains depending on long reservation list. The rush for ticket bookings for travel during the summer vacation has already gained momentum. Extra coaches will help to ease the rush,” said a public relations officer at Garden Reach.

Some of the trains that will get additional coaches are Howrah-Ahmedabad Express, Howrah-Mumbai Geetanjali Express, Howrah-Pune Azad Hind Express, Puri-New Delhi Puroshottam Superfast Express, Howrah-LTT Jnaneshwari Express and Tata-Amritsar Jallianwala Bagh Express.

Officials at the computerized passenger reservation system at Tatanagar said the rush for booking reservations in trains heading for Mumbai and New Delhi has already gained pace.

U K Srivastava, a senior functionary, Chotanagpur Passengers Association said the decision to run a special train is a laudable decision. But since large number of people will travel towards Bihar authorities should also add extra coaches in trains like South Bihar Durg-Danapur Tata Express and Tata-Danapur to meet the rush.

Sources informed that in order to handle the rush of passengers during the summer season, the railway authorities have started monitoring the waiting list of commuters on a daily basis so that they could add extra coaches to the trains according to need.

However, passengers are desperate to know when additional coaches will be attached to the existing express trains running to different destinations towards Bihar, UP and southern states.

“It feels great to know special train has been pressed into service on Howrah-Mumbai route but what about those waiting to confirm berths on trains travelling to Bihar and southern states,” said Hitesh Jain, entrepreneur and trader’s representative.

He went on to add that thousands of people from the steel city and other places visit Delhi and Bihar during this time with their families there, and as a result, getting reservations become difficult.

In the last summer, the railways had to press in two special trains on the Howrah-Mumbai route following intense pressure from the commuters as passenger’s outnumbered berths in the regular trains during the vacations.

The Tatanagar station assumes importance in view because it is located on the Howrah-Mumbai main route. Several important trains travel via Tatanagar, including the high-profile Rajdhani Express and Duronto Express.

The station sees a daily traffic of 90 mail, express and passenger trains, besides a footfall of more than 60,000 passengers.
