Jamshedpur, Dec 17: Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) has requested Chief Minister Hemant Soren to slacken the order banning use, storage or sale of plastic in the state. In the letter to the CM, Chamber president Vijay Anand Moonka and honorary general secretary Manav Kedia said the relaxation should be given till some alternative to plastic was available. They said all state governments had banned plastic after an order to this effect by the Central government.
“The ban is good for the environment. But it is causing great inconvenience to the industries, traders and the common people since there is no alternative to it and finding one would take some time,” said Kedia.
The Chamber functionaries said many workers were engaged in plastic industry and now their livelihood was threatened by the ban. They said the Maharashtra government had relaxed the plastic ban in view of the public inconveniences.
