Jamshedpur : In order to encourage girl participation in various sporting activities and inculcate the value of sports in their lives, The Corporate Social Responsibility Department of Tata Steel organised a Girls Hockey Tournament (open age category) for the first time to mark the birth anniversary of Jaipal Singh Munda today at Armoury Ground, Jamshedpur.
A total of 14 teams comprising of 252 girls from Gumla, Simdega, Bangaon, Manoharpur, Chaibasa, Khunti and Tamar participated in the tournament.
The event was inaugurated by Biren Bhuta, Chief, CSR, Tata Steel, which was followed by the tournament and prize distribution ceremony. The other guests present on the occasion were Manoj Kumar Prasad, Jt. Secretary, Jharkhand Hockey Association, Ghanshyam Gagrai, President, West Singhbhum, Hockey Association, Dilith Castleton, Head , Empowerment, CSR, Tata Steel, Urmila Ekka, Head, Tribal Services, Tata Steel, Patras Lagun, Secretary, Hockey Association, Chaibasa along with all the coaches and managers of the teams.
Mita Singhal, a prominent social worker was the Chief Guest for the closing ceremony and M C Thomas, GM, Noamundi, Tata Steel, gave away prizes to the winners.
Results: Winner Team- Simdega Team B. Runner�s Up Team- Simdega Team A. Best Player- Ms. Sangita Kumari. Best Goalkeeper- Rumana Khatun.
