Jamshedpur, April 03: The rising mercury in the city has prompted schools to change timings from Classes I to XII starting from Tuesday.
Reacting before the district administration could send circulars, some schools have already decided to change their timings. While several schools will decide their course of action tomorrow.
The local office in Jamshedpur today recorded a maximum temperature of around 41.5 degree Celsius. The Met department has extended the heat wave conditions in Jamshedpur for another 24 hours.
Loyola School, Sacred Heart Convent, Dayanand Public School, Rajendra Vidyalaya, and a few others will start their day from 6:30 am with a dismissal time at 11:30 am. Carmel Junior College will start their day at 6:20 am tomorrow and will get over by 11:30. Students of kindergarten will complete their school at 10:30 am. The junior section at Rajendra Vidyalaya School will disperse at 10.05 am. The classes will commence at 6.30 am.
St. Mary’s English School has also changed the timing to 6:25 am to 11:30 am while kindergarten to be dispersed an hour before. On the other hand ADLS Sunshine School will change their timings from April 5. Kerala Public School Kadma have already changed their timing from 6:30 am to 11:30 from Mar 27 fearing the wrath of temperature on students especially juniors.
” We are waiting for the instruction from the All Jharkhand Private Unaided Educational Institutions tomorrow as many principals will meet and discuss the issue. The temperature was not too hot today. If there is a need tomorrow, we shall take a call,” said Nandini Shukla, principal, Kerala Samajam Model School.
School staff said they had never come across a situation where lesson times had to be changed because of the temperature. �The month of April this year is warmer than usual from the beginning, and suddenly from the middle of the month the temperature shot up to almost 43 degrees Celsius, which is something completely unheard of,� said Pranjal Das, a senior teacher.
She added that the heat was so fierce that some students were close to falling ill and had to be asked to take rest. �Retiming of the classes is a big relief to both us and the students, and even on those days when the classes were retimed, we asked the students to drink an adequate amount of water while at school,� said Das.
Other schools both ICSE and CBSE shall take a call tomorrow. A meeting of school principals is scheduled with the All Jharkhand Private Unaided Educational Institutions, an apex body of all the private schools of the city.
