Secretariat employees go on indefinite strike

Jamshedpur, May 23: Jharkhand Secretariat Employees� Association went on an indefinite strike in support of their 18-point charter of demands from Monday. The employees were on strike inside deputy commissioner office building in the steel city too.

Work at the district collectorate and development works at various blocks were affected due to the strike.

Collectorate clerk, accounts clerk, employees of Rajbhasa Vibhag and stenographers were on indefinite strike at the DC office premises.

According to an agitating employee, the non-implementation of recommendation of the high-level committee formed by the state government has forced us to agitate. He further said that, we have gone on strike several times earlier also but we have been only given assurances.

Another employee said, Jharkhand Secretariat Employees� Association held a state level meeting and had alerted the government about going on indefinite strike from May 22 if their demands are not met.

He said that our demands are not new and on December 10, 2012 they had submitted an 18-point charter of demands to the government and had gone on strike from 10 days in the year 2013 and 20 days in the year 2014. They were assured that the demands would be met, but nothing happened.

Present at the indefinite strike were Naveen Kumar, district president of the association, clerk-level employees including Pradeep Kumar Hansda, Meghraj Murmu, Sanjeev Sardar, Kartik Hansda, Manik Mahato, Shankar Majhi, Tapan Kumar, Santosh Kumar Dutta, Sanjay Munda, Prakash Puran and others.
