Second entry to Tatanagar railway station in January, SER general manager inspects facilities


Parking area to get shed to help in preventing water logging during monsoon: GM

Jamshedpur, Oct 18: The second entry gate to Tatanagar railway station from Burmamines end will be ready by January 2022. The new entrance is aimed at reducing congestion at the main entrance.

The newly appointed general manager of South Eastern Railway ( SER ) Archana Joshi, during an inspection at the Tatanagar railway station on Monday morning informed that the work is going on full swing and the gate is expected to be opened by January.

During her first visit to Tatanagar railway station after becoming the general manager of South Eastern Railway, she was accompanied by senior officials of Garden Reach, the Kolkata-based headquarters of South Eastern Railway as well as Chakradharpur railway division.

She also promised that the parking area outside the railway station would soon get a shed which would help in preventing water logging during Monsoon season.

While answering media queries Joshi said that all efforts are being made for ensuring proper upkeep and hygiene of Tatanagar railway station, which falls under A-1 category.

Meanwhile, railway officials informed that the second entrance will help passengers coming from Sakchi, Golmuri, Baridih and Telco areas of the steel city.  Funds to the tune of Rs 1.75 crore have already been spent for developing the second entrance, work for which began in 2010.

The Tatanagar station assumes importance because it is located on the Howrah-Mumbai main route. Several important trains travel via Tatanagar, including the high-profile Rajdhani Express and Duronto Express. The station sees a daily traffic of 90 mail, express and passenger trains, besides a footfall of more than 60,000 passengers.

“Tatanagar is significant because it falls on the Howrah-Mumbai main line. It is the busiest passenger junction in the state and hosts around 80 trains every day. Dhanbad, which is a much smaller station, has escalators,” senior functionary of the passenger association U.K. Srivastava reasoned.
