Jamshedpur: In protest against delay in repair work of NH 33, Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy staged a dharna on Thursday morning demanding expedite in repair work of NH 33. Several activists of Bhartiya Jan Morcha ( BJM) led by Roy staged a protest demanding immediate repair on damaged stretches of NH-33.
“The condition of the highway in the 10 Km stretch between Pardih and Baliguma has reduced from bad to worse. The potholes and damaged highway often invites road mishaps. Though the repair work has started but it is very slow. We want the administration to expedite the work so that commuters have no problem during chhath. , ” said Roy.
He said that though the work of repair has started but it is slow right now. The administration must intervene and bring speed in the work so that it can be completed before Chhath.
Roy also went on to inform that after chhath he will go to New Delhi to meet Nitin Gadkari , Union Minister for Road Transport Highway and Shipping and appraised him the plight of NH 33.
The highway that connects the city with the rest of the country is slowly becoming an accident zone. In the rainy season several mishaps have been reported. The people are facing problems due to the poor condition of the highway.
“I had to urgently return to the city for my official work but due to mishap I got delayed. It was really pathetic to see long serpentine vehicles struck on National Highway. Surprisingly the four kilometers stretch between Jamshedpur to Ranchi with the advent of monsoon has developed craters and potholes. There is a heavy flow of traffic in the route since it is an NH. However, the authorities are yet to take any steps,” said an activist of BJM.
He said that for the users of this road, it is an ordeal every day – dust, potholes, and lack of adequate space for pedestrians, buses and four-wheelers.
Concerned over the plight of NH 33 and 32 in Singhbhum, Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry, largest trade body in Kolhan recently also wrote to Nitin Gadkari , Union Minister for Road Transport Highway and Shipping to take immediate steps to start repair work of the NH 33.
