Jamshedpur : State food and civil supplies minister and Jamshedpur (West) MLA Saryu Roy on Thursday received complaints against exclusion of densely populated Kadma and Sonari from proposed industrial township. Roy has decided to compile the complaints and submit ir before the state government.

Roy presided over a meeting with party activists and residents of Kadma and Sonari at his Bistupur office afternoon (incidentally Kadma and Sonari falls under Jamshedpur West assembly constituency), Roy received protests on exclusion of the two localities, allegedly on suggestion of Tata Steel, from the proposed industrial township.

I called this meeting to understand the sentiments of the public. As public representative, I cannot give my personal opinion on this issue as the decision on industrial township and Jamshedpur Municipal Corporation has been taken by the government but I will definitely make the government aware about feelings of the residents before a final notification on nature and area of industrial township and municipal corporation is issued in the next few months, said Roy after the two-hour long meeting.

The minister directed the Kadma and Sonari block leaders of the party to visit the localities and collect complaints of individual residents by January 10 and submit it with the MLA office in Jamshedpur which would then be forwarded to the government.

I spoke to the resident and they are concerned over administration agreeing to the suggestions of the private companies in terms of selecting which localities will be in the industrial township and Jamshedpur Municipal Corporation without taking into confidence the local residents. The residents also want third voting right in the industrial township and do not want to be governed by corporate entity, he noted.

Roy said that three possibilities emerged after the meeting are all areas currently served by Tata Steel should be included in the proposed industrial township, all areas currently served by Tata Steel should be included in the proposed Jamshedpur municipal corporation and the administration’s proposal of both industrial township and municipal corporation.

It may be noted that Mango has Mango Notified Area Committee as its local urban body while Jugsalai is under Jugsalai municipality while non-company command areas in Jamshedpur are looked after by Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee. Tata Steel subsidiary Jusco looks after civic amenities in company command areas. Corporation status will give them benefit of more funds for improving basic amenities.

State urban development and housing minister C. P Singh, had asked the district administration to draw the blueprint of the constitution of industrial township status for Jamshedpur company command area.

Earlier this month, the district administration had held the first meeting of steering committee for preparing a blue-print of the industrial township status including demarcation of wards after Supreme Court earlier this month disposed off the case over industrial township status as both Tata Steel and state government mutually agreed on the issue.
