Saryu Roy convenes meeting with DC, speedy completion of water supply system

Jamshedpur, May 13 : The drinking water and sanitation department (DW&SD) is set to start second phase of tap water supply system in Mango soon.

In view of summer steps are being taken to ensure proper water supply this season. Food and civil supplies minister Saryu Roy convened a meeting with DC Amit Kumar in this regard.

Roy, who is a legislator from Jamshedpur West assembly constituency, said in the first phase of mega drinking water project, they had set a target to provide tap water facility to 17,650 house-holds. He said after the second phase of the water supply project will cover the entire Mango area starting from Pardih to Baliguma.

The minister said he has also instructed the department concerned to mend all the 255 tube-wells under MNAC area and 178 tube-wells falling under the Jamshedpur notified area committee (JNAC) by the end of March 31.

“In view of upcoming summer we taking several initiative. Apart from the mending of the tube-wells, we have decided that the residents who will be in need of drinking water may get it by tanker,” the minister.

He said keeping in view of the drinking water required for Mango, they have decided to construct one more water tank at Gandhi Maidan soon. He said they are taking such measures in the water supply field that the residents of Mango will not have to face drinking water problem in the next 100 years.

Earlier in the day, the minister who convened a meeting of the East Singhbhum deputy commissioner, Amit Kumar, officials of various departments at the local circuit house for discussing the present condition of water supply to the residents and also to chalk out what steps should be taken to cope up with the summer.

The minister said the utility company Jusco had carried out the maintenance and supply work of Mango water supply project for two years, but this time the company did not participate in a tender process for continuing the maintenance and water supply work at Mango.

He said there are several competent agencies in the field of water supply, the water supply to Mango residents will be done.

Roy said they should not depend on any private company like Jusco for such work which can be carried out effectively by the government agency.
