Jamshedpur, March 14: Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy, raised the issue of difficulty in operation of Moharda drinking water project at Birsanagar in Jamshedpur in the state assembly on Tuesday.

Saryu Roy in a release to the media claimed that through a special mention, he raised the issue of difficulty in operation of Jamshedpur’s Moharda water project due to less flow of water in Subarnarekha river in the Vidhan Sabha and demanded that the house should direct the release of water from Chandil Dam and also asked the government to take over the water project.

The Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Rabindra Nath Mahato directed the parliamentary affairs minister Alamgir Alam to take cognizance of the matter and to implement the intention of the House from the government.

Saryu Roy told the House that he had raised a question two days ago regarding the release of water from Chandil Dam for Moharda  water project in the Vidhan Sabha, but the government refused. It is said that the farmers do not allow the dam to be filled completely. That’s why it is not possible to release water.

He told the House that the government is making false statements which are in violation of National Water Policy. According to the National Water Policy 2002, the first right on river water is for drinking water. The industrial use of river water is on the fourth number in priority. If there is less water in the dam, then the government should reduce the supply of river water to the industries, not the share of drinking water.

Roy told the Speaker to ask the Water Resources Department for data on what is the dead storage capacity of Chandil Dam and how much is the full taker. Before the arrival of monsoon, how much water the department wants to empty the dam so that more water is stored here during the rainy season and the low-lying areas do not get flooded. On this basis, the government should present the details of release of water for Moharda water supply.

After this Mr. Rai also spoke to the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs. He will have a meeting with them tomorrow on this issue and settle the matter.
