Ghatshila, August 25: There was an air of jubilation in Ghatshila College as one of its students who did her MA in Santali, Salge Hansda of the 2011-’13 batch was selected by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, for the prestigious Sahitya Academy Youth award for her outstanding contribution to Santali literature.
Ghatshila College Principal, Dr RK Chaudhary said that a function would shortly be organized to honour Salge for her outstanding, national achievement. Talking of Salge Hansda, Dr Chaudhary said that she was born in Barigora and did her early education there. She passed her Intermediate Arts course from Rajendra Inter College, Govindpur and Honors in Santali from LBSM College in Jamshedpur in 2010. Later, she enrolled at Ghatshila College in 2011 where she pursued her PG course in Santali. Dr Chaudhary said that Salge Hansda passed her MA with first division marks and was currently teaching in the Santali Department at Shibu Ranjan Khan Degree College in Chakulia.
It may be mentioned that many of Salge Hansda’s literary work in Santali have attained popularity and attained critical appreciation. Her first novel in Santali language, ‘Janam Dishom Uzadok Kana’ has won for her the Sahitya Academy Youth Award for literature.
Ghatshila College Principal Dr RK Choudhary also congratulated Madan Mohan Soren, Convener of Santali Paramarsh Mandal of Sahitya Academy, New Delhi and his team on Salge Hansda’s selection. The entire staff and faculty of Ghatshila College were elated with Salge Hansda’s national achievement. Professors Dr PK Gupta, Dr Naresh Kumar, Dr SK Singh, Prof Indal Paswan, Dr Sandeep Chandra, lecturers of the Santali Department Manik Mardi, Dr Mahi Mardi, Basanti Mardi have congratulated Salge Hansda for her achievement.
