Noamundi, Jan. 8: The 25th Annual Flower and Vegetable Show was inaugurated at Sports Complex, Noamundi today by Ms. Ruchi Narendran, who was present as the Chief Guest.
M C Thomas, GM (OMQ), Tata Steel took the Chief Guest and other guests around the ground and showed them the stalls and the varieties of flowers and vegetables showcased. Ms Narendran was impressed with the quality of flowers and vegetables displayed. She also appreciated the participation from local village community in vegetable category and local mining companies in the exhibitions. Mrs. Ruchi Narendran while addressing the audience said that “Flower show is a way to promote and create awareness among new generation for Environment”.
There is a display of various flowers and vegetables by different mines, institutions, township members & local villagers around Noamundi / Joda as well as garden owners of Noamundi township. Competition of different category of potted seasonal flower, perennial flower, potted fruits and vegetables, potted foliage plants, cacti and succulents, bonsai, cut flowers, bouquets and garlands, medicinal and aromatically plants was held.
It was divided into two categories i.e. Institutional and Amateur. These exhibits were judged by Mr. Pramod Kumar, Scientist Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Jagannathpur, Mr. Shantanu Kumar Nayak, Deputy Director, Horticulture – Keonjhar and Mr. I V Shahi, GM – Horticulture & Agronomist, Kanpur. The prize distribution ceremony will be on the concluding day on January 10, 2016.
Today, an awareness programme was also organized with local villagers and farmers by scientists of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Jagannathpur.
There are 24 stalls for showcasing Institutional Display, Handicraft, Terakota, Art Gallery, Prerna Mahila Samiti Group and CSR initiatives. There are also sale counters from where people can buy saplings.
