Raksha Bandhan celebrated with traditional fervour

Jamshedpur : The celebrations of Raksha Bandhan in Jamshedpur very well portrayed the cultural richness of the city.
Though Raksha Bandhan is a festival of North India, then also rakhi is celebrated with much fervor in Jamshedpur. Like every year the festival of scared between brother and sister was celebrated with fun and fanfare.

The festival of sacred bond between brother and sister- Rakshabandhan has helped for the postal department of Jamshedpur register brisk business this season.

The spirit of Raksha Bandhan radiated across the city on Monday. Youngsters flocked to the markets to get a fashionable gift for their sisters from a range of imported chocolates, kurtis, perfumes,
watches, and even laptops! Trying to meet the demands of readymade articles, some shops displayed in their rakhi shelves, an assorted collection of ready-made plates with kumkum, rice, rakhi, and sweets.

Rakhis were also exchanged as bonds of friendship, a practice that has become an increasingly popular trend, particularly among the school students and college crowd. People celebrated Rakhi Poornima by performing pujas in the temples and changed their holy threads.

According to information, the postal authorities had prepared water-proof envelopes. The department had provided each post office with special envelopes that can carry rakhis and letters safely even in times of bad weather.

A senior official of Jamshedpur Post Office, Bistupur said that every day over thousand such rakhis were transported from the city. Despite technology ruling the market people still rely of the post.

� We are very happy with the response.We have not yet calculated the figures but we are confident that the business has doubled this time. Keeping in mind the overwhelming response, more staff have been
deployed to handle rush of people at Post offices during Raksha Bandhan,� he added.

Postal officials also said that people also used the services of Speed Post this time, which means additional revenue for the department.

He added that the post offices across the city had made full arrangements to play the perfect messenger.
�My brother studies in Mumbai and like every year this time too I sent him a designer rakhi through Speed Post.

Despite the fact that e-rakhis are rage these days but still I rely on the traditional
thread and what better way to send it than post. Raksha Bandhan strengthens the bond and firms the loving fraternal relationship between brother and sister ,� said Rekha Tripathy, a resident of Bistupur.

Meanwhile the traditional festival was celebrated with fun and enthusiasm in the city today. People were seen making last minutes purchases as the market was flooded with buyers.
