Rain brings relief from searing heat in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, April 24: After days of intense heat and humidity, Jamshedpurians are finally getting a respite.

Several parts of district along with Steel city received rain on Friday evening while most areas are also expected to receive rainfall on Saturday. According to the MeT department, rainfall along with strong winds can help denizens get respite from high temperature, humidity and sweat.

On Friday city recorded 30mm of rainfall which brought the temperature to 28 degree from 40 degree. According to MeT department, the temperature is expected to dip further. Sky will remain cloudy with rain and thundershowers in several parts of the city. The maximum and minimum temperatures predicted for Saturday are 35 and 22 degrees Celsius respectively.

With signs of rain from early morning, many ventured out with their umbrellas and other protective gear. However, those who came out unprepared got drenched in the rain.

Meanwhile, roads in Sakchi and other parts of city got flooded even as pedestrians found it difficult to walk through slush and also bear the occasional splashing by fast-moving vehicles. The weather forecast for the region is: partly cloudy sky for the next two days with chances of rain or thunderstorm.

Meanwhile scattered to fairly widespread rain or thundershowers with isolated thunder squalls have been forecast over the Chottanagpur region until Sunday.

Animesh Chanda, of Patna Met office said that there had been no Nor’wester. But a low pressure in Bay of Bengal helped create cyclonic trough line in Assam, Bihar, Bengal, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh helped bring rain.
He said that more thundershower is likely to occur in 48 hours.

“Easterly winds are dominating most parts of the state. The atmosphere is conducive for rain and storm weather “When the wind direction changes to easterly, it causes a trough, which causes cloudy skies. It is not unusual for light rain to occur due to the trough,” he noted.

People, in large numbers, ventured outdoors enjoying the breezy weather while some youngsters preferred to get drenched in the drizzle.

Showers were seen in areas of Jamshedpur, Chaibasa, Chakulia and lasted more than an hour.According to the meteorological department, chances are that these localised thunderstorms will greet the city tomorrow once again.
