Jamshedpur, May 22: In a bid to make the Railways technologically advanced, Railway minister Suresh Prabhu launched a wakeup call-destination alert service for the passengers. Now, the Railways would wake the passengers by calling them before their station arrives during the night journey.

With this service, the Railways have made arrangements for peaceful sleep of the passengers. Lack of awareness and absence of promotion from the Railways is the main reason why not many passengers are still not aware of the new service.

The new service has been launched by the Railways for the passengers. By calling 139 from their mobile phones, passengers can use the service while travelling, said Satyam Prakash, senior divisional commercial manager (DCM) of Chakradharpur Railway Division.

Activate 139

To activate the service, passengers would have to dial 139 from the mobile phone they are carrying with them during the journey. After dialing the passengers will get an option to select their preferred language. For destination alert passenger will have to press 7 and then press 2.

Then the passengers will be asked their 10 digit PNR number present on their ticket. After dialing PNR number, they would be asked to confirm it by pressing 1 and the passenger will get the conformation message through text.

After completing the formalities, the passenger will receive wakeup call on the mobile before the station arrives and will continue to call till the passenger attends the call.

The most important aspect of this service is that railway will continue to call the passenger till the call is attended. Once the passenger receives the call he or she will be informed to be ready with the luggage as the station is about to come.

The railway ministry is focusing on digitalization and recently Minister for Railways, Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu inaugurated the High Speed Wi-Fi services atseveral railway stations.

The Wi-Fi facility for the visitors and rail users at these stations has been commissioned by RailTel in association with Google for providing high speed state of the art world class internet experience to the commuters.
