Raid at Co-operative College hostel, bows and arrows seized


    Jamshedpur, July 16: In view of several clashes between different groups of students at Jamshedpur Cooperative College, the police on wee hours of Saturday raided colleges hostel and seized bows and arrows along with sharp knives and dagger.

    Acting on a tip off, a police team from different police station areas was formed to raid the students’ hostel at early hours.

    During the raid the team seized bows and arrows along with sharp knives and daggers. The police also seized a sack full of stones. During the raid several outside youths were also nabbed who are not part of . “A team was formed comprising police personnel from different police stations for the raid.

    We have succeeded in seizing several objectionable materials along with we have nabbed about 15 youths who are not students of the college but where staying at hostel’s room number 6.

    We have detained them for interrogation,” said a police official. He said that several outsiders staying in the hostel have led to the unrest at the campus.

    There are about 130 inmates at the Students Welfare Hostel within the campus of Jamshedpur Co-operative College. The double storeyed welfare hostel has 30 rooms.

    The step was taken after a clash took place on Thursday at college’s hostel where allegedly activists of ABVP barged inside the hostel and started ransacking the hostel properties and attacked the inmates.

    The inmates of the hostel had used bows and arrows. The hostel inmates claimed that they were beaten up as the activists were protesting some back door admissions in the college. The activists also attacked two bikes parked inside the hostel.

    Superintendent of police (City) Prashant Anand said that the raid was conducted after they received information that the hostel has become save haven for outside youths and this has led to the unrest at the campus. He informed that police will keep a vigil and campus and several security personnel have been deployed at the campus.
