Jamshedpur: The four-day Rabindra Utsav is being organised in the city by the Tagore Society to enthral the art lovers. Exponents from Kolkata and Bangladesh are participating in the annual event from September 9 to 12. Each day deliberations and presentations on Tagore will be made.
Tagore Society, a city-based socio-cultural organisation is hosting the Rabindra Utsav on the premises of RabindraBhavan in Sakchi. Officials of Tagore Society said the conference is set up to nurture young talents and popularise RabindraSangeet, art and literature.
General Secretary of Tagore Society Ashish Choudhary said the response was overwhelming last year and artists captivated the audience with traditional tunes of RabindraSangeet. This year too they are organising on grand scale.
“Rabindra Sangeet, is based on songs written and composed by Tagore, which draw on the pure Indian classical as well as traditional folk-music sources, exert a powerful influence in Bengali cultural life.
It deals with varied themes are immensely popular and form a foundation for the Bengali culture that is comparable to, perhaps even greater than, that which Shakespeare has on the English-speaking world. It is said that his songs are the outcome of 500 years of literary & cultural churning that the Bengali community has gone through,” said Supratik Das, an artist.
Meanwhile officials of Tagore Society said that the beauty of Rabindra Sangeet lies in the fact that both the ordinary person as well as one well versed in music can appreciate its melody.
It reaches great heights in satisfying the soul with its unique compositions and goes to great depths in bringing out the meaning to thoughts conveyed in the songs.
It may be mentioned that Tagore Society, a city based premium educational and cultural organisation, has been organising cultural and art events since its inception. Every year people in large numbers participate in its events.
