Public meetings held over �braid-chopping� rumours

Potka: Peace committee meetings were organized by district police at Potka and Kowali police stations in view of the �chotikatwa� (braid-chopper) rumour on Wednesday.

The villagers were informed that the rumours about someone stealthily clipping the braid of women in their sleep should be avoided at best.

They were asked not to panic or take some foolish steps such as assaulting someone under suspicion of being braid-chopper by the police and administration officials.

Several people present at the meetings said the rumours were being spread like wildfire through various social media platforms.

The police officials said stringent action would be taken against those found guilty of spreading rumours of any kind.

They asked the people not to take law in their hands under any circumstances and requested them to inform police whenever they come across such rumours or any incident pertaining to them.

At Potka PS, the meeting was attended by the officer in-charge of Potka PS Arvind Prasad Yadav, SI Jerku Khariya, Mukhiya Deepantari Sardar, Mukhiya Pando Sardar, Mukhiya Sitaram Hansda, Urmila Samad, Chhavi Das, Ashok Bhakat, Devti Sardar, Gurucharan Singh and Anand Das.

At Kowali PS, the meeting was attended by Dukhni Mai Sardar, Lakhicharan Kundu, Manoj Singhdeo, Mukhiya Ganesh Kumar Sardar, Mukhiya Saiday Jabiullah, Mukhiya Sunil Munda, Mukhiya Madhav Hembrom, Ward member Aftab Amal Ansari, Zikrul Honda, Simti Sardar and Raju Murmu.
