Jamshedpur, April 5 : Student activists of Ajsu on Thursday staged agitated at the Jamshedpur Worker’s College protesting against the closure of post graduate courses in political science, Urdu, Maths and English.

Students sat on a demonstration at the administrative building of the Mango based college as the first semester exams that are currently being conducted by Kolhan University. The local police station from Mango took eight demonstrators into custody as section 144 was implemented in examination centres but were released later.

Kolhan president of Ajsu Hemant Pathak who led the demonstration said that they were forced to sit amidst exams because the varsity is paying heed to their demand of re-starting post graduate courses for the last two years.

The activists expressed an urgent need for restructuring of colleges under the varsity to improve standards of education in the region. They said that there was an urgent need to improve infrastructure and normalise academic session so that students are not forced to leave for metro cities for higher studies.

” There are good numbers of students in these subjects though there were few students in Maths but the others had around 50students. Moreover, the college being in Mango is being approached by youngsters of rural areas like Patamda, Bodam and even from Purulia, noted another activist.

College authorities said that the university had suggested closure due to lack of infrastructure and dearth of teachers yet the current college principal B. N. Prasad has sent a request to the varsity to restart the course.

I feel the college should be capable of generating maintenance cost. We have to work together to ensure placement facilities. For this we have to build up links with corporate houses. It is really sad that colleges have failed to build on the linkage till now, noted a professor.
