Jamshedpur : Parents and students of Utkramit Prathmik Vidyalaya, which was burnt earlier this year,� along with their parents demonstrated at the district collectorate main gate to protest move to merge their school with nearest state-owned school in Mango.
President of Jamshedpur Abhibhavak Sangh, Umesh Kumar said that most of the parents of the children are daily wagers and leave home early morning. �
The students who were led by members of a city-based association of guardians were angry at the verbal communication given by education department officials to their principal Urmila Devi that following HRD department order against running of school under makeshift structure or under tree shade in the state their school (which runs under a thatched roof) will also be merged with schools, situated around 1 km from their existing schools. ��
For the records, the single room, thatched-roof and tin-walled Utkramit Prathmik Vidyalaya was established on two cottahs on College Road in Mango in February 2003.
The school was set on fire for the fifth time in a decade on January 31 night by unidentified people, allegedly owing allegiance to the local land mafia.
The cradle providing education to nearly 45 students between class I and V had also been set on fire in May 2004, October 2005, July 2007 and April 2009, and on every occasion, the school management had lodged complaint with Mango police, but in vain.
