Principal secretary N N Sinha asks administration to start Aadhaar awareness drive

: Principal secretary state information and technology department N N Sinha has asked the East Singhbhum administration to start Aadhaar awareness drive so that maximum people can draw its benefits.

The awareness drive to be launched though information, education and communication (IEC) campaign by the administration will aim at achieving 100 percent enrolment for UID (Unique Identity) numbers by the end of this fiscal. The drive starts from January 2014.

Principal secretary state information and technology department, N. N Sinha who reviewed the Aadhaar card status at the district collectorate while speaking to reporters said that there are people in the district who seem not to be interested in enrolment for the Aadhaar project.

�It is an ambitious project we want to make it cent per cent success. I have asked the district administration to the start the awareness drive People after this awareness drive would realise about the importance of the Aadhaar card especially in terms of disbursement of government benefit,� said Sinha.

The district has achieved enrolment of 82.28 percent so far as against the state figure of 89 percent. Across the state 65 percent of the populace has Aadhaar card issued.

East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Amitabh Kaushal said that they would soon plan a strategy for launching an IEC campaign across the district.

Highlighting the relevance of this drive in connecting wide number of population with Aadhaar, officials said, �Villagers usually fail to get detailed information on Aadhaar through various modes.

Considering that lack of awareness is an issue that has plagued the process of enrolment, this event will aim to reach out to those sections that have most to gain from welfare schemes.

Besides promoting the importance of Aadhaar card, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIAD) has planned new manuals, dramas and street plays to reach out to people.

The new initiatives include an SMS alert system and issue of UID card within a month of applying. “We are slowly picking up pace and we want to cover the rural populace first. New initiatives will be planned out soon,� noted an official.
