Jamshedpur, April 2: Steel City is in a state of shock after hearing the news of suicide of popular city girl Pratyusha Banerjee known as ‘Anandi’ for her role in Balika Vadhu TV serial.
Pratyusha’s friends, colleagues, school teachers and steel city residents have expressed their shock at the passing of the 24-year-old actress – who was reportedly found hanging from the ceiling fan in her house in Mumbai on Friday evening.
The actress, who did her schooling from Kerala Public School, Kadma lived with her parents in Sonari before venturing into the world of showbiz at the age of 19. The KPS School at Kadma, from where Pratyusha did her schooling, observed two minutes silence as a mark of respect to the departed soul, on Saturday.
Pratyusha’s parents, Shankar Banerjee and Shoma Banerjee before leaving for Mumbai on Friday night said, ‘We never thought that our daughter would take such extreme step’.
Pratyusha’s parents, who stay at an apartment in Kagalnagar in Sonari, heard the shocking news from the neighbours and were informed by their neighbor. Later they rushed to Tatanagar railway station in the mid night to board Azad Hind Express to Kolkata from where they took flight to Mumbai on Saturday morning.
‘Since the day Pratyusha expressed her wish to make a career in glamour world, family backed her and supported her but her death has shocked us all’, said her Uncle.
‘Pratyusha was a very strong girl and it’s impossible to digest the news of her suicide. She was very lively and energetic since her days in school and always participated in dance and drama activities’, said Sharmishta
Jharna Banerjee, grandmother of Pratyusha just could believe the situation and said that she was so strong girl and she just can’t commit suicide.
Pratyusha’s neigbhour just can’t digest the news of her death saying she wanted to make big in the entertainment industry and how she just shortened her life it’s hard to believe, said her neighbhbour Akash.
KPS Kadma’s drama teacher Vasanti says that Pratyusha was very obedient girl and always participated in school drama competition, God knows what driven her to take drastic step. However, one look at Pratyusha’s once-populated Instagram account reveals that she last posted a photo 22 weeks ago.
Media houses have been circulating her last WhatsApp status, updated on 15 March, which reads: “Marke bhi munh na tujhse modna” (I’ll remain loyal to you even after my death).
She shot to fame overnight when viewers voted for her to play the plum role of Anandi in Colors’ Balika Vadhu in 2010.The series helped her become one of the most popular faces of the Hindi TV industry.
She went on to participate in Bigg Boss season 7 and a number of other serials. She also featured in a few advertisements and walked the ramp. Her success helped her create a massive fan following and helped make her a household name.
