Post-graduation programme to start soon at Jamshedpur’s MGM Medical College

Jamshedpur, Feb 23: Three separate teams of National Medical Commission (NMC) on Tuesday visited MGM Medical College and Hospital at Dimna and Sakchi. The NMC teams visited the state-run college and hospital to study whether there is required infrastructure for initiating post graduate medical education in three departments namely Surgery, Pathology and Paediatrics.

While two of the teams of NMC, earlier known as Medical Council of India, inspected and assessed infrastructure of Surgery and Paediatrics departments at the MGM medical college hospital here at Sakchi, the third team assessed the infrastructure of the Pathology department at the medical college at Dimna.

Meanwhile, a senior administrative officer of the medical college hospital revealed that the inspection team is observing the existing infrastructure at both the college and hospital. The team will submit a report before the commission, New Delhi.

After three-hour-assessment assessment at the medical college hospital, the two teams went over to the medical college to preside over a meeting with the principal, MGM medical college in the afternoon. Prashant Barla, principal, MGM medical college confirmed about the visit of NMC teams to the medical college and hospital.

“The teams from the National Medical Commission visited the medical college and hospital. They have already assessed the existing infrastructural facilities in the departments of Surgery, Pathology and Paediatric for the post graduate study here. We are hopeful that we will receive the nod from the NMC to commence the post graduate study in these three streams, ” Barla.

The principal said there are already facilities for MD courses in Anatomy, Pharmacology and Physiology, and diploma course in Paediatrics and Gynecology.

Incidentally, the medical cradle had applied for PG courses (MS/MD) in orthopedic, anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, biochemistry, pathology, microbiology, gynecology and obstetrics, surgery, medicine and anesthesia. The medical college has affiliation for 100 MBBS seats.

It may be mentioned that the State Government governed Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College and Hospital, is an Indian medical school established in 1964. It is situated in the outskirts of Jamshedpur near Dimna. The students are admitted through an All India pre medical test CBSE PMT held by CBSE and Jharkhand and Bihar states’ combined entrance tests. The college’s hospital is located in Sakchi.
