Police bust Maoist hideout in Ghatshila, recover arms and ammunition

Jamshedpur, Sep 18 : In an encounter with Maoists at Tikri Pahari in Ghatshila, Security forces recovered arms and ammunition including 2 magazine, 6 live cartridges, jeletin, Camera, naxal poster, naxal literature along with food items.

Police and personnel of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were conducting a joint search operation in Ghatshila town around 40 km from Jamshedpur city following a tip-off when the Maoists opened fire, forcing security personnel to retaliate. The gun battle continued for an hour.

Maoists fired 200 rounds of bullets while police responded with 150 rounds of bullets. However, the Maoists fled later.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Jamshedpur, Anoop T. Mathew said the items recovered from the camp also included Maoist literature. Food packets and water bottles were also found at the Maoist camp. The police added that with the help of literature, they would be able to know what plans these Maoists had made for the future. According to reports the group boasts of 12 members including 2 women.

According to sources, a woman Maoist was injured in the police firing. Police and CRPF are in search for the woman. The Maoists, also known as ‘Naxals’ in India, seek the violent overthrow of the Indian state and have fought authorities for decades, particularly in rural areas of central and eastern India where they enjoy some support.

At the joint search operation SSP Anoop T Mathew, SSP Shailendra Kumar Burnwal, CRPF 193 Battalion DSP Kundan Kumar Singh and others were present. SSP further said that taking the advantage of mountain, Maoists fled the scene but he assured of launching another big operation to clear off Maoists from the region.
