Police bust inter-state gang of marijuana smugglers

Jamshedpur : The police�today�morning busted an inter-state gang of marijuana smugglers by arresting three persons at Bahragora under Ghatshila sub-division. While making the arrest, the police seized 40 Kgs of marijuana from the possession of those arrested.

Those arrested were identified Shailesh Kuswaha and Amit Kumar Rajpur, both residents of Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh and Raju Ansari, a resident of Buxar district in Bihar.

According to information the marijuana was packed in 20 sacks had been stuffed inside the cabin of a container which was coming from Odisha and was heading for Uttar Pradesh.

Acting on a tip off the police raided the vehicle and confiscated the consignment of marijuana.� It is for the first time that the police have succeeded in arresting marijuana smugglers along with confiscating the narcotic stuff.

Superintendent of police (rural) Md Arshi said it is a major achievement of the forces. They got a tip off that a consignment of marijuana was loaded inside a container which was carrying some industrial goods to Uttar Pradesh.

” We rushed to the sopt to see that the container was parked near a `dhaba’ at Kesarda village along the NH-33 in Baharagora.� Acting on a preplanned strategy��a police team arrived at the eatery and surrounded all those who were there. Then a section of the police team started searching the goods loaded in the container they were shocked when they searched in the cabin where they found the sacks of marijuana,” said Arshi.

The superintendent of police said that the police team immediately took the container in its custody and identified the driver as well as cleaner of the vehicle.�

“After an hour-long operation, the police identified Rajput (30) as the driver and Kuswaha (28) as the cleaner.� After grilling the duo, the police team could know about Ansari (32), the man who was smuggling the marijuana consignment from Odisha to Uttar Pradesh.� Soon all the three were arrested,” revealed Arshi.���

Notably, there have been several cases of marijuana being seized. Earlier the police had confiscated an ambulance from which 400 kgs marijuana was recovered at Saraikela on�April 17, but no one was arrested.

In another incident, the police seized 80 kgs of marijuana from a car near Tatanagar station under Bagbera police station area on�May 2, but this time also no one was caught.
