Police bust gang targeting trucks at Marine drive, four arrested

Jamshedpur, Nov. 4: The city police on Friday busted a gang of looters who would target trucks and loot cash and cell-phones from the truck drivers on the Marine Drive under Sonari and Bistupur thana area.

While busting the looters’ gang, the police arrested four persons and recovered Rs 3,000 as well as two cell-phones from the possession of the accused.

Police have arrested Bijay Machhua (23) Mangal Nishad (25), Radheshyam Bhuiyan (22) and Dhondu Gope (31), all residents of New Kapali Bustee in Sonari.

Superintendent of police (city) Prashant Anand said that they had got a complaint of loot of Rs 4,000 from a truck driver, Chhotelal Minz, whom the looted on the Marine Drive near XLRI gate under Bistupur thana area on Thursday evening.

“As per our information , a resident of Kolkata, Minz was returning back to the metro city by carrying cables from a Gamharia-based company on Thursday evening. The assailants had robbed the trucker after stabbing him in the lower abdomen. The truck-driver is undergoing treatment at the MGM Medical College Hospital,” said Anand.

According to the City SP, they were searching for the criminals involved in the Rs 4,000 loot on marine drive in Bistupur area, they got another complaint of loot taken place on the marine drive past midnight.

“In another loot case, which took place on the marine drive under Sonari thana area, a gang of criminals had intercepted a truck by showing hockey-sticks and iron rods at about 12.15 am.

Targeting truck driver, Pankaj Kumar Singh and cleaner Punit Kumar Gupta, the criminals looted Rs 7,000 from their possession. The looters had also snatched away two cell-phones from the driver and cleaner leading the victims to inform the Sonari police at about 1 am,” Anand said.

The city SP said that a task-force comprising the officers-in-charge of Sonari, Bistupur and MGM thana and swung into action for apprehending the culprits at about 4 am.

On the statement made by the loot victims, the police team raided the houses at New Kapali Bustee located along the marine drive and incidentally got a clue to the looters.

The police team nabbed all the four looters who were involved in both the incidents of loots,” said Anand.

He said they not only succeeded to arrest the looters but also recovered a portion of the looted amount and also the robbed cell-phones from them, adding that they are trying to recover the remaining looted amount.
