Plans to establish permanent police camp at Saranda area: DGP

Jamshedpur : Jharkhand director general of police Rajeev Kumar said that Maoist activities in Jharkhand contained Jharkhand, said here today.

“The situation has improved to a great extent as we have been able to contain them,” he told newsmen here. He went on to inform that the department has plans to set up permanent police camp at Saranda to deal with the situation efficiently.

Kumar urged the policemen to remain alert as the rebel outfits reply more on guerrilla tactics and can attack anywhere anytime. Kumar said that the idea is to work in much efficient manner and curb the criminal activities across the state.

The naxal problem has subsided considerably in the state in comparison to last year. “”I do not claim that Maoist activities have been stopped up in the state. However, situation has improved to a great extent as we have been able to contain them,” Kumar.

Director General of police (DGP) has said that the ball has been set rolling for recruitment of 10,000 policemen and officers. Talking to the newsmen here he said of the 10,000 policemen to be recruited, some will be constable and others police officer in the rank of sub-inspector.

He pointed out that apart from these fresh recruitments, 9,000 constables will be promoted to the post of assistant sub-inspectors of police.

The DGP said that the state police authority have to enhance the intelligence gathering mechanism soon. He informed that for strengthening the intelligence gathering capability they have decided that those officers who are posted in the Special Branch will not be transferred to other department.

�I have come up with some important suggestions and asked them to improve on gathering information after all we are here to serve the society and it cannot be possible without improving on our part and winning confidence,� said DGP.

About increasing incidents of organised crime including cyber crime, he said criminals were now using the internet and mobile phones to commit crime.

Keeping these factors in mind, he said the department has taken steps to modernise the police force. He said that the district as the police and para-military forces have worked tremendously to curb the naxal activities in Ghatshila and other naxal-infested areas.
