Jamshedpur, Oct. 4 : A delegation comprising panchayat representatives of Jamshedpur block met the superintendent of police (city), Prashant Anand, on Tuesday and complained against certain anti-social elements allegedly threatening Afzal Akhtar, deputy head of Jamshedpur block.

The delegation members told the SP that Akhtar was assaulted by several persons who also tried to strangulate the alleged victim. RavindraNath Singh, deputy head of Jamshedpur block, led the delegation. He said that the police should provide security cover to all block level panchayat representatives.

It is strange that the persons accused of threatening and trying to kill Afzal Akhtar are moving about the city without any fear or prohibition and police is doing nothing to arrest them. We want the police to act promptly in this case, said Singh, who named two of the accused persons as Nazre Imam alias Gulla and Tarvez Arshad.

The SP assured the delegation members of speedy police action in the case.

The delegation members said that the incident of assault on Akhtar had taken place yesterday at the residence of MukhiyaTulsiTudu in Barinagar under Telco police station area. Akhtar said he somehow fled the place to save his life.

Among those who met the SP included Sanjay Mani Tripathy, Prabha Hansda, Neetu Devi, Bhim Mardi, Jharana Mishra, Jitendra Yadav, Birju Patro, Mohan Bhagat and Raju Patro.
