Number of BPL families in Jharkhand to be halved in 3 years: Raghubar Das

Gumla: Chief Minister Raghubar Das today said that he was ready to account for every single penny going to be spent by the government ahead of the Budget. He was addressing a pre-Budget seminar organized at Nagar Bhavan in Gumla.

The CM said that he will be giving an account of his two years work before the people of the state. He said he will do it every year. He said the opinion and aspirations of the people meant a lot to him and that he was not afraid of the Opposition parties or critics.

Das said he had come to the people to know their opinion and expectations from the Budget for the Financial Year 2017-18.

Speaking about the government’s plans for tribal welfare, the CM said that a Primitive Tribe Development Authority was soon going to be set in Jharkhand. He added that the government was planning to give 35 kilograms sacks of food-grains to the BPL category beneficiaries of the state.

“The number of BPL families will be halved in three years. Capital of Rs 4 lakh will be provided to BPL families for self-employment purpose,” he said.

“Education has been the top priority of the government. We are going to start recruitment of 18000 teachers from January next year. Computer classes will be held for class IX and X students. Coach will be provided in all schools. Skill training programmes will be held separately for talented students,” said the CM.

Das said the government was planning to set up a committee on GST with Chamber of Commerce and tax officials. People will be enlightened on GST.

The CM further said that the closed mines of the state will be revived through e-auction. Sakhi Mandals will be given free LPG connection and connected to Public Distribution System. For over 1000 Sakhi Mandals, cooperative banks will be opened, he said.

The CM while challenging the Opposition parties said his government was doing everything possible to prevent corruption and bring transparency in governance. He said online lagan (tax on land) system had been started in the state to prevent corruption in land mutation. He said his government was also trying to provide insurance benefit to 80 per cent of the people in the state.

Appealing to affluent people, the CM said they should construct toilets for the poor people if at all they wanted to do something for them.

The CM said the benefits of the recent amendments in the land laws will be visible to one and all very soon.
Also present on the occasion was the Jharkhand Assembly Speaker Dinesh Oraon. He said an Inter University Board will be set up to ensure uniformity in the state universities. He asked the government to strengthen its delivery mechanism and simplify taxation system to gain more revenue.

Also present on the occasion were several MLAs, Chief Secretary Raj Bala Verma and Additional Chief Secretary Amit Khare.

They spoke on Budget and the importance of people’s suggestions. Khare said that a separate budget had been prepared for agriculture in the forthcoming Budget of Jharkhand. The next Budget will be for January to December. All plans will be given approval till 31st March.
