Nuagram villagers informed about BHIM App

    Jamshedpur, Dec. 31: In keeping with his push to steer India towards a digital economy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday launched a new e-wallet app, BHIM (Bharat Interface for Money ) , named after founding father Dr BR Ambedkar, to make it easier to transact online.

    A day after, Sanjay Kumar, deputy collector of Chief Ministers camp office put up a camp at Potka’s Nuagram Village (set to become the first cashless village of Jharkhand) on Saturday to inform about the benefits of ‘Bhim App’, how to download and use it.

    At the camp 18 villagers of Nuagram downloaded the App and appreciated the features of the Mobile Banking App. Manoj Modi, a resident of the village soon connected the mobile and SBI bank account through the App and transferred money. Manoj later helped her sister Seema Modi and others to download the App and use it.

    Another villager Prashant got to know his bank balance through the App. On the occasion mukhiya of the village Savitri Sardar along with Urmila Samad, Dr. Jayant Dey, Rahul Dey, Jawahar Lal, Vikas Dey, Sanjay Sardar, Shishir Das Mandal, Rajkumar Nandi downloaded the Bhim App.

    Later, addressing the villagers, Sanjay Kumar said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a new e-wallet app, BHIM (Bharat Interface for Money) to enable digital transaction. The Aadhaar-based mobile payment application will allow people to make digital payments directly from their bank accounts.

    BHIM is inter-operable with other Unified Payment Interface (UPI) applications and bank accounts, and has been developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).

    Adding that the BHIM app doesn’t even require an Internet connection since it can also work on simple feature phones, Kumar said that it is an Aadhaar-based payment system. BHIM will not need a mobile phone, internet or even a feature phone. It will only need your thumb (impression), he added.

    The BHIM app comes with basic features such as the ability to send or receive money, linking of accounts, saving profile of the user, changing the language, recording beneficiary details and providing balance enquiry.

    He informed that ‘Bhim App’ can be downloaded from Play Store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=in.org.npci.upiapp.

    On the occasion Mukhiya of Judiya panchayat, Utpal Mandal, Vikas Nandi, Vikas Sardar, Vivek Nandi, Tarun Kumar Dey and villagers in large numbers were present.

    Significantly, Nuagram village has welcomed cashless initiative of the government of India and is taking giant leaps in becoming first cashless village of Jharkhand.
