Ranchi, June 9: Jharkhand government extended the lockdown, billed as ‘Health Safety Week’ till June 16 with major relaxations including extension of shopping hours by two hours. Significantly, this is the fifth time that the restric- tions, first imposed on April22 have been extended. The lockdown was till June 10. “All shops will be per-mitted to be opened till 4 pm (earlier it was allowed till 2 pm) in all districts,except East Singhbhum (Jamshedpur). In East Singhbhum all shops will be permitted to be open till 4 pm except garments, cloth, jewellery, footwear and cosmetic shops. However, there will be acomplete lockdown between 4 pm on Saturday and 6 am on Monday andall shops will be closed except medicine, clinics, hospitals, restaurants (homedelivery) and cold storages across all the 24 districts,” said state disaster manage-ment minister Banna Gupta. Significantly, the disaster management departmentwas chaired by chief minister Hemant Soren at Ranchi on Wednesday. Sources in the disaster management departmentinformed that Jamshedpur was singled out as it recorded the highest number ofCovid cases on Tuesday (348 out of a total of 603) and continued to share themortality rate jointly with Ranchi (five) on Tuesday. “The government does not want to take any chances in East Singhbhum which is the industrial hubof the state as the cases have shown to rise. We will review the situation in thenext meeting and take a decision on Jamshedpur,” added Banna Gupta whorepresents Jamshedpur West assembly constituency in the state vidhan sabha. Shopping malls, assembly balls,parks, banquet halls, clubs, gymnasiums,department stores selling multiple categories of products will continue to remain closed. All educational centresand coaching institutions would continue to remain shut. Examinations alsoremain cancelled. Nineteen of the total 24 districts in the state did not record any death during the last 24 hours. The recovery rate of the state improved to 97.02%, better than the national average of 94.30%. So far, 3,32,007 patients have recovered from the infection, including 803 during the last 24 hours, the bulletin of the state health department on Tuesday said. There will be no require-ment of e-passes for movement within the district. However, e-pass will berequired for inter-district and inter-state movement. Mandatory institutional orhome quarantine for persons coming to state from outside for a minimumperiod of seven days continues to be in place.
Plying of buses will continue to be prohibited in the state. However, plying of public transport like auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws and cabs will continue. Prohibition on religious processions and gathering of more than five persons ata place continues, barring 20 persons for last rites and 11 persons for marriagefunction.
