Jamshedpur : A group of 53 students of Std. V to X from Buddha Academy School, Mango accompanied by their teachers, Deepak Kumar Barik and Mrs. Doli Singh visited CSIR-NML, Jamshedpur and interacted with the scientists and research scholars this morning under the aegis of School-NML Interactive programme (SNIP) in collaboration with NASI, Jharkhand Chapter.
The programme was scheduled for three hours, which includes an overview of Indian Science and Technology, Documentary film show on CSIR and NML, visit to NML Museum/ Archive/ selective units of the laboratory for the exposure of modern laboratory research environment. Dr. P.N. Mishra, Principal Scientist NML briefed about the programme & discussed the significance and impact of science for the development of society in particular and India in general.
He further discussed the role of NML in the exploitation of natural resources. Dr. N.G. Goswami, Chief Scientist & Advisor Management delivered speech on �science and technology�. Further, he motivated them to pursue science as carrier and try to continue education in science stream.
Ajay Singh, a student of Std.X said,” I learnt about minerals, ores, metals and how they are extracted and used”. Rahul Kumar, a Std. X student said, �I came to know about the CSIR & NML and their contribution towards the development of society and impressed through the lecture delivered by the scientists. Rajesh Singh and Ms Rinki Gope expressed the similar view. Sonu Kumar and Mr Rahul Kumar Yadav were impressed to know about the contribution of NML in the area of Electronic Waste and recycling under the waste management & utilization programme. Dolan Namata and Ms Madhu Kumari expressed that �they are very much motivated and inspired to attend the programme and planned to pursue carrier in science.
The students expressed their excitement and happiness over the laboratory visit as well as interaction with the scientists and research scholars. In fact, they were thrilled while visiting the labs and looking R&D facilities and practical setup. Tanu Kumari said, “I came to know about new things here like India�s first Super computer PARAM designed by CSIR in 1986, Swaraj Tractor used in farming based on CSIR technology, the importance of patent and its impact, which I barely knew earlier. It was a wonderful experience rejuvenating my thought process”.
The students were delighted to observe the latest technologies displayed at museum pertaining to protection and preservation of products made up of brass. Students and teachers were further visited at the Asia�s second largest creep testing lab, recycling lab and minutely observed the scientific activities.
