NIT Jamshedpur shines at Behind the Teacher�s Desk 2016 at NML

Jamshedpur, June 10: The valedictory function of the 6th edition of �Behind The Teacher�s Desk� (BTTD-2016) � a two-day students� seminar on metallurgical engineering organized jointly by The Indian Institute of Metals (IIM), Indian Society for NDT (ISNT), Tata Steel Limited and CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory (NML) �was held on Friday at the CSIR-NML Auditorium.

The organizers arranged for the students� industrial visit to Tata Steel, Usha Martin Ltd and Tata Cummins. An interactive session was held on �Cycle of Development: Innovation, Technology and Entrepreneurship� that included interactive brainstorming game for participants.

Dr. A.N. Bhagat, secretary, IIM Jamshedpur chapter, presented his remarks on the proceedings during the two days. He remarked that this interactive platform will surely improve the thought process of the participating student and they would carry the same forward to the nation building.

Dr. S. Tarafder, chief scientist and head, MST Division, CSIR-NML, opined that BTTD is a unique initiative for providing an open environment for expressing oneself and interacting with experts in the area concerned. He also asked the students to give their opinion on the two-day program and suggestions for further improvement in the organization of the event.

Winners of technical sessions (BTTD-2016) were presented attractive prizes. Technical Presentation Session 1A: Extraction, Refining & Casting: First Prize: Pritam Banerjee: �National Institute of Technology (NIT), Jamshedpur; Second Prize: Akshay Abhijeet: �National Institute of Technology (NIT), Jamshedpur.

Session 1B: Raw Materials & Waste Utilization: First Prize: Rishabh Kumar: National Institute of Foundry & Forging Technology, Hatia; Second Prize: Ankita Singh: National Institute of Technology (NIT), Jamshedpur.

Session IIA: Modeling & Simulations: First prize: Abhiraj Singh Patel: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur; Second Prize: Vedprakash Dewangan: National Institute of Technology (NIT), Jamshedpur.

Session IIB: Materials Properties & Non-Destructive Evaluation: First Prize: Devesh Mukherjee: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur; Second Prize: Manish Kumar Gupta: National Institute of Technology (NIT), Warangal.

Session IIIA: Material Processing & Characterization: First Prize: Deepak Kumar, Vishal Anand: National Institute of Technology (NIT), Jamshedpur; Second Prize: Jhilik Sen: National Institute of Technology (NIT), Durgapur; Third Prize: Utkarsh Raj: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur.

Session IIIB: Advanced Materials & Emergent Technologies: First Prize: Geeta Kumari: �National Institute of Technology (NIT), Jamshedpur; Second Prize: Simpathakur, Harishitchaturvedi: �National Institute of Technology (NIT), Jamshedpur; Third Prize: Kishan, Oza Meet: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Banaras (BHU).
