Jamshedpur, Feb. 9: The third edition of Kolhan University Youth Festival kicked off amidst enthusiasm today at the Rajendra Vidyalaya auditorium on Tuesday.
R P P Singh, the vice-chancellor, Kolhan University was the chief guest, while Kunal Sarangi, JMM MLA from Baharagora, was the guest of honor. This was the very first time that the varsity’s youth fest was hosted in Jamshedpur. The Jamshedpur Workers’ College plays host to the inter-college fest. The festival would continue till February 11.
“The festival provides an opportunity to the students to showcase their talent, interact with other students and enjoy all the three days with lots of cultural events that students would offer. I ask all the participants and give their best to win laurels,� noted Singh.
He expressed an urgent need on raising the standard of education in Jharkhand which can only happen through teamwork. He also spoke about the need of a youth policy in the state.
“We need to have a youth policy in Jharkhand. This would help the government to extend various kinds of incentives to help youths in various fields of employment. It will also help to curb brain drain. We should not forget that a large number of students leave the cities after completing their 10+2 in search of better education and employment opportunities,” said Singh.
Sarangi expressed concern on brain drain and what the government and educational institutions should do to make Jharkhand an education hub.
The first day of the youth fest partially took place in the Motilal Nehru Public School auditorium right in front of the Rajendra Vidyalaya auditorium. The first day witnessed events like debate and elocution in English Hindi and Sanskrit, classical dance solo, group song (Indian and western), folk orchestra, classical instrument solo and western vocal.
More than 1000 students from 24 constituent and affiliated colleges of the university are participating in the festival.
The officials informed that the events like music (classical, light, group song, patriotic and folk), dance (folk tribal and classical), literary (quiz, debate in Hindi and English and recitation), theatre (one-act play, skits, mime, mimicry) and fine arts (on-the-spot painting, collage, rangoli) would be organized.
�This youth festival would provide a forum for the display of student-talent and creative skills and would emphasis the seamless interconnections between high education and culture,� said an official of Kolhan University.
