Nagadih lynching: NHRC asks state to pay Rs 3 lakh compensation

Jamshedpur, May 6 : National Human Rights Commission ( NHRC) has issued a notice to the Chief Secretary of the State to pay Rs.3 lakhs compensation to next of kin of each victim of Nagadih lynching incident in which three innocent youths were killed in May 2017.

The commission has also sought outcome of departmental action against police personnel and criminal cases registered against the culprits.

In May,2017 three innocent youths were killed under jurisdiction of Baghbera Police Station by a mob. The petitioner advocate Madan Mohan Priye approached the NHRC and sought its intervention. NHRC after studying the plea on May 3 issued notice to the State for compensation.

Three youths Vikash Verma, Gautam Verma (both brothers) and their friend Gangesh Gupta were lynched by the Nagadih villagers on May 18 night while an elderly lady Devi (grandmother of Vikash an Gautam) was grievously injured by the mob suspecting them to be child-lifters.

Latter, following the recommendations by the two-member probe committee (Kolhan commissioner Pradeep Kumar and then DIG (currently Bokaro DIG) Kolhan Prabhat Kumar, the government had suspended Seraikela-Kharsawan DC Ramesh Gorakh Gholap and SP Rakesh Bansal on June 9 and later on June 10 suspended Rajnagar circle officer Rajeev Neeraj, Kowali police station OC K. N Ojha, Mango OC Budhram Oraon and Azadnagar OC Jitender Thakur.
