MGM College to soon receive 17 resident doctors


    Jamshedpur, Jan. 10: The patients visiting the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial College and Hospital (MGMCH), have always been confronting long queues at the OPD (Outdoor patient department) due to dearth of doctors at the hospital.

    The situation is most likely to improve as the government run hospital would soon receive 17 residents doctors and long queues would be a thing of the past.

    The appointment process is almost done and doctors would report in a few days. The 1000 odd patients who visit the hospital daily always have to face trouble and 48 senior residents’ doctors currently at work find it difficult to manage the patients.

    MGM Medical College, one of the leading government hospital of the Kolhan division always witnesses problems while extending health care with doctors strike and other reasons.

    The new appointment of 17 doctors will help several departments including Medicine and Surgery department were 4 doctors would join, three doctors will join Anesthesia department. One doctor each will join ENT, Dental, Skin, Eye, Orthopedic, and Gynecology department, respectively.

    Dr. AN Mishra, principal of MGM College said, the current doctors at work are not enough to administer the patients’ crowd at the hospital but the new appointments of doctors will help in smooth functioning of health services at the hospital.

    The hospital authorities have informed that newly appointed doctors were supposed to join before Diwali but owing to procedural reasons doctors will now join in the next few days.

    The college principal, informed that the exercise to appoint the senior resident doctors was initiated in accordance with the provisions of the Medical Council of India.

    Junior doctors at strike makes situation worse at the hospital but somehow we manage things during crisis period however with the apparent augmentation of the resident doctor’s strength we will now be better placed in case of any crisis like situation,” said a resident doctor.
