Jamshedpur, Feb 17: IMD’s Meteorological Centre has issued an alert of rain in the region on Sunday, February 20. Several places across Jharkhand are expected to experience light to moderate rain due to the impact of a western disturbance passing through northern parts of the country.
“ As per our study the trough due to a western disturbance will impact Jharkhand’s weather for a day on Sunday. It will result in isolated rainfall. Weather conditions will again become clear from Monday,” said a duty officer at Ranchi Met Centre.
An official of IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre today said that apart from showers, several pockets of the state will witness lightning and thunder. An alert was also issued by the meteorological department in this regard this afternoon.
Satellite pictures and other weather observations today revealed that the western disturbance in the form of a cyclonic circulation was hovering over Jammu and Kashmir at 3.1 Km above mean sea level today . An associated trough was also hovering over the middle and upper tropospheric level at 5.8 Km above mean sea level . Another cyclonic circulation was existing over southwest Madhya Pradesh extending upto 1.5 km above mean sea level. But, the impact of this cyclonic circulation would wane in the next 24- hours.
Weathermen said the current wind pattern was helping in moisture incursion into the atmosphere and cloud formation. The minimum readings ( or night temperature ) also witnessed a rise.
Met officials said there will not be many fluctuations in minimum temperature in the next 48 hours. Statistics revealed that minimum temperature hovered between 10-14 degrees Celsius in most places across the state on Thursday.
The official went on to say that the adverse weather would prolong winter’s stay in Jharkhand. ” Winter departs Jharkhand by mid-February. But, the current change in weather system would extend the winter in Jharkhand,” said the official. He added that winter might extend beyond February 22 as they were expecting another western disturbance which would impact Jharkhand’s weather around that time.
