Meeting on Moharda drinking water project on June 26

Jamshedpur, June 24: Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy informed media on Thursday that state urban development and housing affairs department secretary Vinay Kumar Choubey has called a meeting on June 26 at Ranchi to remove loopholes on the smooth operation of the Moharda drinking water project in Baridih-Birsanagar, Jamshedpur. 
The meeting would be attended by officials of Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee, Jusco and drinking water and sanitation department. The MLA claimed that the meeting has been called after his letter to the departmental secretary on June 14 on suggestions on getting rid of shortcomings which is not letting the drinking water project to be operational in a successful manner for the targetted beneficiaries and also improve the quality of water supply from the project. 

The MLA had in the informs thatt the World Bank sponsored drinking water project at Moharda had its foundation stone laid by then chief minister Arjun Munda in 2006 and the project was finally completed partially in 2013. The beneficiaries of the project filled the application form but there were complaints on the irregular supply and quality of water supplied under the project. The then government handed over the project to Jusco in 2017 for operation and maintenance. 
However, everyday there have been litany of complaints from the beneficiaries of the project on quality of water and irregular supply of water. The MLA had  alleged that Jusco claims that whenever Subernarekha river swells the plastic and other garbage from Jamshedpur and Mango clogs the pumphouse of the project which in turns damages the intake well machines. The Jusco claims that the design of the project is faulty and anyday the project can stop functioning. 
The MLA claims that there is a need for an alternative project rectifying the flaws in design and locations of the existing project.
