Local youths rob foreign national of passport, cash; three arrested


    Jamshedpur, April 18: A foreign national was robbed of his passport and Rs 49,000 at a company quarter in Tube Baridih locality under the Sidhgora police station area on Sunday night. The police on Monday arrested three youth for allegedly robbing the foreigner.

    Those arrested were identified as Kaushal Kishore Jha (28), Prashant Singh (25), and Rahul Kumar (24), all originally from Bihar but staying at Qr. No K2-287 in Tube Baridih locality. The foreign national was identified as Salvador Juarez (28), who hails from Republic of Guinea.

    Late last night, the police received a complaint from Juarez who had alleged that the three youngsters had allegedly robbed his Rs 49,000 and a cell phone after assaulting him at the quarter where they stayed.

    According to police, Juarez is an engineering studying pursuing his studies at Bangalore. He had come to the steel city recently along with his friend Shiddharth Pandey on vacation at the latter’s house in Birsanagar.

    On Sunday evening at about 8 p.m., Juarez was strolling on a road at Birsanagar alone. Incidentally, a SUV stopped near him and the three youth, who were inside the vehicle spoke to Juarez for a while and offered him a ride.

    According to police, the youths subsequently took him to their Tube Baridih quarter. At the residence, the youths consumed liquor and offered the same to Juarez and talked about him and his country.

    During interaction they asked the foreign national about his purpose of visit to the steel city and also suspected him to be a drug peddler.

    Subsequently, the situation took an ugly turn when one of the three slapped Juarez. The victim ran out of the quarters and on reaching his friend’s house at Birsanagar about three km away he discovered that his money and cell-phone which he had kept in the pocket were missing.

    On the basis of the complaint, the police investigated the case this morning and picked up the three youth. On being interrogated, the trio accepted that they had assaulted Juarez but had robbed him.

    Incidentally, the police recovered the cell-phone on the way between Tube Baridih and Birsanagar, but there was no trace of the money. The probe is on.
