Jamshedpur, May 2: Kerala Samajam Model School and Baug-E-Jamsheed jointly bagged the Dr. J. J. Irani Award for Excellence in Education by scoring 600 points and above out of the total 1000.
The Tata Education Excellence programme�s (TEEP) Annual Award function was held on 1st May 2017 in Fasy Auditorium, Loyola School. The chief guest of the much-awaited event of the city was T V Narendran, MD, Tata Steel India and South East Asia.
Jusco School, South Park, Gulmohur High School and Motilal Nehru Public School won the Outstanding Achievement of Excellence in Education for the first time while J H Tarapore School and Tarapore School Agrico sustained the awards in the band of 550-599 points.
Hill Top School , Telco was awarded the Commendation for Extraordinary Achievement in Excellence in Education for the first time while JUSCO School ,Kadma, Kerala Public School, Kadma and Kerala Public School, Mango sustained the awards in the score band of 500-549.
Kerala Public School , Burmamines, NML Kerala Public School, Vidya Bharti Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Telco notched scores between 450-499 to sustain the Commendation for Significant Achievement in Excellence in Education.
Speaking on the occasion, T V Narendran, MD, Tata Steel India and South East Asia, lauded the initiatives taken under TEEP. He spoke about how important and impactful this programme by the Tata Steel has been. He also mentioned how a feedback mechanism in this programme can make the programme more effective.
�The education system is continuously changing and in the next 10 years the industries that will create the maximum jobs are non- existent now. This is the rate of how education is changing, and why teaching relevant things will matter the most,” added Narendran.
The Tata Steel MD further said that the schools should make instrumental use of technology by connecting with the alumni and bringing them back to improve the system. Focusing on the academics, Narendran said the schools should focus on vocational skills because in the future apart from academics, it would be the skills that will pay important part in getting people better jobs.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Sunil Bhaskaran, Chairman TEEP and Vice President, Corporate Services, Tata Steel, congratulated the TEEP team for not only sustaining the program for over 10 years but also for revitalizing the program from time to time through various improvement initiatives.
In his address, Dr. Jamshed J Irani, former Tata Steel MD, said he was happy to know that the program was achieving success in its mission to develop concepts of excellence and quality in students. He spoke about the importance of education, and above all importance of relevant education.
He informed that how Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA, changes its curriculum after every three years to teach the students what is relevant. He then shared his personal experience about how education has changed over the last decades, pre-independence and post-independence.
�It is important to learn excellence from childhood, because that in turn teaches justice, which is the most important thing in this world”, added Irani. He congratulates everyone involved with TEEP and all winners and the participating schools.
As many as 53 schools, including CBSE, ICSE and state-run institutions, participated at the annual Tata Education Excellence Programme (TEEP) award function today. A total of 53 schools, which had participated in TEEP programme for the year 2016, had done so in initiatives such as EQUIP (Educational Quality Improvement Projects), Innoteaching (innovation in teaching), Pankh (student led improvement stories, Pearl (best practice sharing), Dare To Try (learning from failures).
Awards for the year 2016 were given away by T V Narendran, Dr J J Irani, Ex. MD Tata Steel, Sunil Bhaskaran, Vice President, Corporate Services, Tata Steel, A B Lall, Plant Head, Tata Motors, Tarun Daga, MD, TCIL, and Ashish Mathur, MD, Jusco.
